The SSDI process can take several months, and in some cases longer if an appeal is required. Initial decisions often take 3–6 months. If a hearing is needed, the timeline may extend further. Properly preparing your application can help reduce avoidable delays.

To qualify, you must have a medical condition that prevents you from engaging in substantial gainful activity (working) and is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. The Social Security Administration maintains a Listing of Impairments, but even if your condition is not listed, you may still qualify based on how it limits your ability to work. Strong medical documentation is essential.

You have the right to appeal. Many valid claims are denied at the initial level but approved during reconsideration or at a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. We guide clients through every stage of the appeals process.

You are not required to have an attorney, but experienced representation can improve your chances of approval, help avoid costly mistakes, and strengthen your case at the appeal or hearing stage.

Limited work may be permitted under Social Security’s rules, including trial work periods and income limits. However, earning above certain thresholds can affect eligibility. We help clients understand how work activity may impact their benefits.

Your monthly benefit amount is based on your prior work history and the Social Security taxes you paid over time. We help clients understand their estimated benefit amount and ensure all relevant earnings are properly considered.
