If you live in or around our home base of Milwaukee, you know that there are quite a few things to do year-round. But some of the most fun events occur during the summer months, with Summerfest being the most well-known of all – but certainly not the only one.
As we see the end of summer in the not-so-distant future, we are looking forward to the 2018 Milwaukee Labor Day Weekend events, as they never disappoint. As your friends in fun, we at Tabak Law have compiled a list of free events going on during the unofficial “summer finale” weekend.
2018 Milwaukee Labor Day Weekend Free Events
Laborfest – Monday, Sept. 3
One of the best known events, Laborfest is free and has something for everyone. The event starts out at 11 a.m. with a parade starting at Carl Zeidler Square Wisconsin Union Memorial and ending at the Summerfest grounds. There, the fest continues until 5 p.m. Events include a car show, music, food and drink and other family entertainment.
Third Ward Festival – Saturday, Sept. 8 – Sunday, Sept. 9
Held at the historic third ward neighborhood on Broadway Street between St. Paul and Menomonee Streets, the Third Ward Festival is always a popular event. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, artists from around the state and region showcase some of their finest work. There is also live music, kids games, and food of all kinds for purchase.
St. Francis Days – Labor Day Weekend
St. Francis Days, held at “Milt” Vretenar Memorial Park on Kirkwood Ave, has a slew of events to enjoy. The parade happens at 11 a.m. on Saturday, traveling West on Howard Ave, South on Kinnickinnic Ave and East on Lunham Ave. There will be a “Star Wars” film screening on Thursday night, an appearance by the Milwaukee Brewers’ racing sausages on Sunday from 2-3 p.m., live music and food, including a chicken dinner at noon on Sunday.
LionsFest – Labor Day Weekend
The Oak Creek Lions Club hosts this event at 9327 S. Shepard Ave in Oak Creek that includes live music, carnival rides and a large amount of food options all weekend. There is no admission fee to the event, but the carnival rides do have a cost associated. The Friday night fish fry from 4-7 p.m. is always a big draw. Veterans receive a free meal with their military ID, provided by the Lions Club.
Maxwell Street Days – Sunday, Sept. 2
This huge flea market at Firemen’s Park in Cedarburg has been a draw for years. While not exclusive to Labor Day weekend, the event certainly ramps up for the big weekend. It is also celebrating its 50th year in 2018. Expect around 600 vendors with a mix of antiques, art, crafts and much more for sale. The hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
