At Tabak Law, we are proud to be a part of our community. Recently, some of us had the chance to volunteer at the Fisher House in Milwaukee this week. We served lunch to the guests staying there and got a better look at the kind of support this place gives to families of veterans. It was a simple way to give back, but one we really appreciated being part of.
What is The Fisher House?
The Fisher House provides a temporary comforting “home-away-from-home” for families of veterans and active-duty service members receiving medical care at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. Guests stay free of charge, allowing them to focus on supporting their loved one during treatment. The Milwaukee Fisher House is located on the grounds of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and serves as a vital source of comfort and community for military families.
The Milwaukee Fisher house has specific criteria that must be met to stay there:
- You must have a loved one who is receiving inpatient care at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center or a local facility provided by the VA
- You must live approximately 50 miles or more away from the facility
- You must be medically stable and be able to live in an unsupervised setting on your own
A Reminder of Why We Do What We Do
Spending time with these families and giving back in a small way was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. At Tabak Law, we’re committed to fighting for the benefits veterans and their families have earned, whether it’s VA disability benefits, SSDI, or both.
To all those staying at Fisher House and to the dedicated staff who keep it running, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day.
If you or a loved one needs help navigating the VA disability or SSDI claims process, Tabak Law is here to support you every step of the way.
