As you may have heard, Social Security will be seeing the largest percent increase in decades, this had left many wondering if VA benefits will be getting a similar increase. They will, and that’s because, due to relatively recent changes in the law, VA benefits increase by the same percentage (also known as the COLA or cost of living adjustment) as Social Security. How much will VA benefits increase for 2023? Tabak Law has the answers for you.

How Much is the COLA for VA Benefits?

The COLA for Social Security next year is going to be 8.7%. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this COLA percentage is based on inflation which the Social Security Administration determines from specific consumer price indexes.

With the economy in a downturn and inflation on the rise, this increase will be a welcome change to many VA benefits recipients who are currently struggling. For many, it may be a bandaid. If that’s you, and you think you should qualify for a higher disability rating, then you should consider reaching out to Tabak Law for a free case review.

As we said, the increase is 8.7%. Essentially, assuming no other changes, you will make 8.7% more per check than you did in 2022. An easy way to calculate this without even breaking out a calculator is to add $8.70 to your check amount for every $100. If you currently are getting $1,100 in 2022, then it’s $87 (for the $1000) plus $8.70 (for the additional $100). This means a total increase of $95.70 or a new check total of $1,195.70.
